Not sure if this has been covered before, but would a 66 series shifter work on a 706 tractor? I've got one spied in the local junkyard.

I don't know many details, but I have seen a 706 with either a 56 or 66 series shifter on it. It was an older job too, not recently done.

Not with out some modification on the two shifting shafts that go down to the transmission they would need to be shortend plus grinding on the right column suport for the dash to let the shifting shaft clear because it is a larger diameter shaft. You have to besure you get every part from the 66.

It will work but you might want to do some measuring of the column support as there may be diferent lengths, not sure. What I mean is like an 806 is taller in regards to some of the shift linkages etc. Not sure on the shift column support though. You need that support and the range transmission cover and shift linkages as you will be replacing the the one lever input to two levers. Makes a lot nicer shift pattern.
