I have found my lifting limit!

Well... tore the 886 down last week for water in oil pan. Best I could tell one of the #1 sleeve o-rings was out-of-round and hoping that was it. Anyhow, due to having to go to the "real job" a few days earlier in the week, started going back with it today. After getting the bottom end in and torqued correctly, needed to set the gasket and head. Our engine hoist was impossible to maneuver around the engine... Dad said "how we going to do this?" I told him "Watch and I'll show ya..." Of course I set it off, but that is one thing... going back was a little different, since I had to hoist that joker about shoulder high and still couldn't set it down... I managed to set the edge of it on the block, him hold the far side, and I climbed up on the tie rod and frame and held that thing about 3 inches high while he set the gasket and sprayed it with copper-kote.. and managed to get it down with all my fingers and injector tips intact... Don't believe anything heaver will be on my docket, last two heads I did that way were a Super C and an M... I thought the M was bad... I almost bit off more than I could chew today and am feeling it now! Wish some current or former IH mechanic or engineer could tell me exactly what that stinkin' head weighs...

Well, I just got the head off my F-30, and used a farm-jack to do it. used 4x4 blocks as I jacked it up. Had a friend stop over to lift it down off the block.

I redid the head on my H, and I thought that was heavy........grab onto an F-20 or F-30 head and compare notes.................................
