Did I make a mistake?

So I bought a B cultivision and it cam with a complete exhaust lift cultivation system. The guy said it worked a few yrs ago when he used it but it does not work now. I need it for a small acreage garden. Did I make a bad purchase or can I get it to work again?

Thanks,

Cole

The exhaust lift systems only worked marginally when new and up to spec. They use leather seals internally and if it has been sitting, most likely that is the main culprit.

If originality is NOT an issue, I have a neighbor who used a 12 Volt "linear actuator" to replace the exhaust lift. The tractor was already 12 Volt, so it was an easy project.

The three common issues are:
Exhaust diverter not closing the exhaust manifold outlet.
Leaky hoses and fittings.
leather seals in the cylinder (pits and rust can ruin even new leathers)
They are very usable, but like all things over 60 years old they need attention. Jim

A couple of sources for additional info. On this forum you can find our Mr. Bender who has a couple of these systems operating and knows a lot about the various components and on Farmallcub dot com you can post in the "other" forum. One of the experts there wrote an article for Red Power on these systems and might pick up on your post. You can also order that back issue from RP. The article is good.

You say it doesent work what it dont lift wont stay up or what. If you want send an e-mail and ill give you my cell # and we can figure it out. You will love working with it when we get it going.

The exhaust lift was very good when new. We had a new late 40's B that it worked fine on. Remember hydraulics were in their infancy then as far as tractors go. Also the exhaust lift was "live" unlike the H and M.
