Would one of the Farmall B/BN experts please explain the differences between early and late B grills? I own a 1947 B which came without a grill. Are the early and late model grills different but still interchangable? The tractor will be for work not show, so I'm not concerned about having "points taken off".

Best Regards,
Thanks,
Charlie

I have an 806 which has a leak of what looks like transmission fluid dripping out of the right side of the tractor near the right back gear housing. My mechanic says it is not worth fixing. I am looking for someone in Maryland, Pennsylvania or Virgina who fixes old Farmall tractors like mine. Does anyone know to whom I can take my tractor?

The early B's used the dzus fasteners. The setup was totally different. I don't know when they switched to the spring loaded latches, I know my 45 A had the latches. Maybe only 39 thru 41, maybe 42. I don't know

1939's & 40's used the Dzues fasteners. 1941 started the use of the "J" hook.

The grills are different and the mountings the grill attaches to are different. With enough time and work anything can be made to fit on anything, but '39 & '40 grills & hoods are more rare than later parts. I would think that you could get later parts cheaper and easier than the earlier ones. If anybody needs a '39 or '40 grill, I bet you could sell it and buy a later model grill for less money.

Hey Charlie, I'm assuming the NJ behind your name means you are from the great state of New Jersey. If so, where are you located? I'm in northern Hunterdon County.

Thanks Dave and Red Dave for the information. I suppose if I get an early grill and it does not fit well, its still a valuable piece for resale.
Best Regards,
Charlie

Also the top around the filler neck is different. The old ones are just round because there is no overflow tube. The newer ones have this tube on the back of the neck so the grill has a half relief to clear the tube.

Bill, your assumption is correct. I am as far away from Hunterdon as possible in NJ, way down below the Mason Dixon Line in Cape May County. Plenty of red tractors around down here, including my A and B. Years ago it was all dairy farms around here, then changed to lima beans, now vineyards are taking over.
By the way, I just had a 113 cylinder head delivered yesterday from your neck of the woods, Asbury, NJ. The seller apparently parts out a lot Farmalls on Ebay. He is a straight shooter, the head is really nice, and he shipped it quickly. Mine was the only bid, $75.00.

Best Regards,
Charlie

Thank you Brian, that's good information, probably the easiest way to tell the difference between them.
Best Regards,
Charlie
