Mess'n with the governor on '41 H

I"d like to get a little more speed our of my H, how easy is it to adjust the governor? Is it just a screw adjustment or does something need to be fabricated? The tractor came with a spare governor so I wouldn"t mind making changes to one. I think my "41 H is rated at 1650rpms, some newer Farmalls are 1800? How high could I safely go and how much more road speed might I get?

Someone just posted about changing out the spring in the govenor to get more rpm, they gave a part number for a spring availkable at tractor supply. Just look for it, was in the last couple days.

This is a modification fairly common in tractor pulling, will work here too! What ya want to do is pull the fly weights out, get a cutting wheel out, and lighten them up. There is usually a casting flash half way down the weights, trim them down to just above that. If not trim an 1/8 inch at a time and check the outcome. Make sure there isn't any slop in the pins on the weights, and the linkage. A stiffer spring as previously mentioned may help, but if this is a work tractor and not a play tractor, it may take some time to get used to the throttle response. That with some careful adjusting will get you any rpm you want! Good luck. It isn't as hard as it sounds!

(quoted from post at 18:51:30 10/27/10) Not fast enough for me.

If the tractor is going 16MPH at 1650RPM, it will only be going 17.5MPH at 1800RPM.

You won't even notice the difference.
