Lead additives

I make no claims to be knolageable about engines. However I have been on the farm all of my life so you learn some stuff. Lead was not put in gas untill the mid to latter thirties when higher compression engines were being put in cars. I have Ford model T and model A cars and trucks, all low compression about 5:1. Most older 4 cylinder tractors are not much over that. I run unleaded gas in all of my tractors and old cars. If I am going to do heavy work with a tractor, like plowing, I put in a little lead additive. I ve had the same bottle for about 10 years. I live in Minnesota so we have 10% alcohol in the gas and they are talking about going to 15%.

The general consensus on this forum is that the lead additives will do nothing more than to seperate you from your money, and are not needed. The exception might be IF you work your tractor HARD, to its maximum capability, everyday, and all day long, and the jury is still out on that one. If you do want to use it, go ahead, it will not hurt anything. I run unleaded E-10 in evrything I own, and have been doing so for as long as the E-10 has been available. Never had a problem.

This question comes up a lot on this site and the answers are always you just dont need iot. If you want to waste your money buy it. I have been using 10% blend in my As and Bs for 30 plus yrs with NO PROBLEMS tractor rides 175 mi per yr with two tractors and others i use in the garden.

I agree with Tom. Never use anything but regular 87 from the pump, nothing else. Check the archives. This subject has been beat to death in the past.... Shawn
