You all are pretty impressive with your knowledge of Farmalls. I am redoing a tractor I bought from a friend and just preping some of the parts for paint. Can you tell what the model is? I"m sure not too tough for most of you. I think the grill kind of gives it away.

Nice prep work, You have way more patience than I do. I work for a while then I start thinking aw that'll be alright. Nice work.

Yes, a 460. Bought it from a friend whose parents had it but didnt use it enough and it ended up sitting in a machine shed for about 15 years. I put some ATF in each cylinder and let sit for a week and took off the carb and cleaned it all out (it was pretty full) and it fired right up and ran like a top! I redid the inside of the tank with POR15 tank sealer (it was pretty rusty) and painted the outside of the parts with POR15 rust preventing paint and will go over that with Farmall red.

An interesting side note, Janicholson (frequent poster here) was one of my college professors! I had him for three or four classes! A very impressive guy to say the least!

Allen - close with the 4020 (I wouldnt mind getting one of those someday - I hope that wont get me kicked off of the Farmall board).

Are you sure it is not a luggage rack for a Vespa. Don't know what it's doing on a tractor though.

Perhaps your tractor looks similar to this.

Did you make that? That is very cool! I know some high schools now do chopper projects where they make chopper motorcycles which is pretty fun. I have thought custom fabing a bike would be fun to do with some students. That thing looks like it would go just about anywhere through anything.

Thanks Jim! I am hoping it turns out nice. I am thinking I may borrow the spray booth here at school and when its time to paint it. Then use it. I did a Ford 8N just out of high school, and it is starting to show some wear again as I have not babied it at all. Have a great weekend.

Uh, Wardner, that's not a Vespa, it's an ultra rare Mercier. Is it yours, by chance? I've only seen drawings. They were such a piece of garbage when new, no-one kept any. I'm not even sure they saw active duty for WW II. I'd have to ask my Pa.

Thanks for the pic!

Mike

Nah, I'm into antique Hawg power. H-D had enough sense to keep the center of gravity very low. The French thought otherwise. I think the only way to mount that cycle is to push it downhill and jump on after it reaches 15 mph. Even then there would be very little gyroscopic stability with only one wheel. And who ever heard of mounting the engine above the handlebars?

(quoted from post at 11:12:55 10/01/10) Thanks for the complement Eric. The 460 parts look radically prepped. It will be a work of art. Jim

So what do you profess about?

I only seed a rusted one afore but I thinks its the REAR radiator grill offn the great Essex Tri Directional Tractor. Hoss
