Not sure what"s going on, but my 2 month old 6 volt battery seems to be always low or run down and barely starts the tractor. Sometimes I have to crank it. My battery + goes to the frame and the - to the starter...wire from generator to same pole on the starter. I"ve been told this is the way it should be. When I bought the tractor, none of the wires or battery were installed. Is this the right hook up? Could it be that the tractor was converted to a 12 volt system...how can I tell? I sometimes have a metal impliement mounted to the tractor setting on the grownd...would this drain the battery? Any suggestions and recommendations will be appreciated. Thanks

Shes NOT wired correct, maybe one of Bob M's diagrams is close enough to get you by??

One wire from the genny's ARM post should wire to ARM/GEN on a Voltage regulator (or Cutout Relay) and the other wire from FLD post on the genny wires to FLD terminal on a Voltage Regulator. Then the BAT terminal on a Voltage Regulator (or Cutout Relay) wires to an ammeter if it has one, otherwise it would wire eventually to the hot ungrounded battery post often to where the big battery cable attaches to a starter solenoid or switches input.

If the Gennys ARM post is connected to a battery post or battery cable etc THAT WILL DISCHARGE THE BATTERY VERY FAST when shes shut down and the genny get hot THATS VERY VERY WICKED. Theres supposed to be a cutout relay in between ARM on Genny and the battery or ammeter or big cable etc which opens upon shut down.

Get it wired correct and then run my Troubleshooting Orocedure is best I can say for now not knowing what you have there

The wiring included below will give you a diagram for an A,B, or C. YOu do need to determine if it is 12 volt, but it is probably 6 positive ground as you indicate. The voltage will not make a difference, the only difference in the diagrams will be the inclusion of a starter relay (if yours has one) but the gen will wire the same. First is from the a terminal on the gen to the voltage reg Arm terminal on regulator (10ga wire), then from the F terminal on the gen to the Fld terminal on the reg (12ga wire), then from the gen bat term to the amp gauge load side (10ga), then to the starter switch (10ga).
Vr and gen need perfect metal grounds to work.
Bobs nice solutions
