M possible super

If I sell my muscle car on ebay this weekend (1968 Dodge Coronet with a 383 if anyones interested) I may be going to look at a Super M for sale locally. Im not real familiar with the different stages. How can you tell them apart? Thanks

Find and print out the serial #'s for M/SM's. This site has them or try external_link.
Supers will have disc brakes. May have belly pump and later will have live hydraulics. Later SM's will have the battery under the seat. Check the archives and read up on the differences before you go look. The decal may or may not be accurate.

Tyler - There's PLENTY of regular M's out there wearing "Super M" decals! (I spotted at least two at a show just this past weekend...)

Anyway in addition to checking serial numbers as Tyler suggests, here are a couple other quick Super M spotting features:

1 - Look at the block just above the oil filter canister. A Super M will have "C264" in cast large characters here. This space on a regular M is blank.

2 - Check the last character of date codes on the major castings - these show the day-month-year each part was cast. A Super M will have year codes of X or Y, for 1952 and 1953 respectively. Date codes of W or earlier in the alphabet (except possibly Nov/Dec with a W year code) indicate a regular M.

A stage 2 will probably have a battery under the seat, ans live (non M&W) hydraulics. It would not have a Belly pump. THe serial Number would indicate SM. Jim
