IH 330 IH 404??

My 330U just started making scary noises, as in probably lost a rod bearing or two. I have a 404 that I bought last year, cheap, just for the tires. I have used it some this summer, but it wouldn't bother me to tear it apart, the 330 is much more useful to me.

So the question is, do they use the same block? I know that they are both basically the same engine (C-135), but I am not sure if they bolt up the same.

The 330 is still sitting right where it died, so I can't easily check it. I will go after it today or tomorrow, but I am trying to get a head start on planning possible repairs.

I own a 2404, Industrial model of the 404. Yes, I think that engine will work in the 330. Seems I recall it being used in other types of equipment.

I believe that the C-135 engine was made in multiple (at least 2) configurations where it bolts up to the bell housing. The 330 bell housing is similar (maybe identical) to the 300, 350 etc. However,I think the 404 bell housing is more like the 140, 240 etc. I would assume that an engine out of a 404 would not bolt into a 330 until I could verify that it would.
