IH364 diesel water pump question

I have an IH364 with the BD154 diesel that has a leaking water pump. My current pump has the bypass hose. The pump available from this YTmag.com site says specifically "without bypass". Is this necessary? What exactly does the bypass do? Where can I buy a water pump with this bypass? Thanks for any help you may can offer.

Hi Fixit, the bypass protects the engine from overheating when the thermostat fails and sticks closed. The early BD-154s on B414 and 434 did not have the bypass. Later models used in 444, 384 and 364 had the bypass. The failure is usually the bearing.
A replacement bearing and shaft assembly could be purchased from CaseIH, part number:
3042304R91 BEARING, water pump spindle.
Casting number is: 704216R4 BODY water pump
The problem is you require a hydraulic press to remove & replace the bearing and spindle. If you are not experienced in doing the replacement, the end result will be a broken water pump casting. Years ago, our local IH Dealer used to sell a re-manufactured water pump. You brought in your old pump and IH gave you a replacement with a new bearing and shaft at a fraction of the cost of a new one.

The following site offers a rebuilt unit:
