706D stuck in neutral

Hi guys.

The HLRN shifter on my 706D is firmly stuck between Neutral and Low. It was working fine and then locked up when going from reverse to low. Moving the tractor a few feet back or forward doesnt help. Doesnt matter whether the tractor is running or shut off.

The external linkages are working properly, no binding or interference. The problem appears to be in the case. I have the floor plate off. Any thoughts or advice before I pull the cover? Things to watch out for? Care to hazard a guess as to what is wrong?

Make sure you get the cover area clean. Any dirt in front of and behind the cover will fall into the transmission.

As you lift the cover make sure the reverse fork upper shaft stays in place or else you will have to remove the side cover to get it back in place in the fork.

Most likely cause is the high/low shift rail broke and has jammed the fork.

Got the cover off and sure enough, found that the hi/lo shift rail (aka, pin) broken. Ordered one of the new improved versions that use c clips instead of a bolt. P/N 148503C1. Also found a very informative thread with pictures. If anyone (in the future) has the same problem and happens to find this thread, search Google for 806 transmission cover off to find the thread with pictures.
