Sorry for a question that has perhaps been asked many times before. I'm restoring an H and would like to think about getting some new rubber for it. I've got both front and rear hubs that originally supported steel wheels. These were torched and then welded to rims which currently hold rubber. The rubber I've got is 12.4-38 and 6-16. It reads right on the rear tire that 12.4-38 replaces 11-38 which is one of the sizes recommended in the original manual. The manul states that 10-40, 11.25-36, and 9-36 are suggested sizes; what do you guys say? And, what about the front? The only other front suggestion is 5.5-16 which doesn't seem that much different from what's on there now (6-16). Thanks.
Also .. I'm planning on painting the outer rims silver and spokes and hub red - does that sound right?

The tire sizes you have now are fine. Some put 13.6-38's on the rear, but a tractor that size really doesn't need them. Red wheels and silver rims are ok. The 9 inch tires were mainly for cultivating in narrow rows. Due to compaction for that small a tire, my dad had a separate set of narrow steel wheels for cultivation, and 11(12.4) tires for everything else.

I'm no tire expert but I do have a Super C, H and M on which I have replaced all the tires during restorations. I have 11.2 X 36 on the Super C, 12.4 X 38 on the H and 13.6 X 38 on the M. I also have a SMTA with 15.9 X 38's which look a little large. The others all look like they did back before the tire size change took place. In fact, the Super C still had the original tires on it which were 9 X 36's before I restored it. I have Firestone Road and field 151's on my tractors but that is just a personal choice of mine. Either the 5.5 or 6 X 16 is fine for the front as they are both noted in the H parts catalog - your choice, Hal.

I have 11.2x36 on my C, 12.4x38 on my H and 13.6 on my M as well, but I'd really like to put something bigger on my M, do you have any pictures of your 15.9s on your SMTA?

I do have a photo I can send you that someone took and sent me which is digital. I am camera challenged and only use those one-use simple box cameras which you take to Walgreens and get the pictures developed. I will be taking some photos soon that I can send but if you care to send your email address I'll forward the one I do have which was taken looking head on from the front which I can send with the tractor in the tractor shed. My email is open on this reply if you want this one quickly, Hal.

I would appreciate it, thanks! [email protected]
