Several H Questions

In the photo of the front wheel (back side) ... I see the race ... what's the other (exterior) ring? Do I need to replace it?
In the photo of the front wheel (front side) ... I see the face ... what's the other (exterior) ring? Do I need to replace it?
I've sent a photo of the grinder brushes I'm using to prepare for priming. I'm using mostly the fine brush. Does this look OK?
Finally ... how do you suggest I repair the hole shown above the guage window?

1 - remants of old seal, yes repalce it.
2 - Are you talking about the old black stuff? Is thats the old gasket, and yes replace it.
3 - Ive used both, the finer mesh for sheetmetal, the rougher for the cast parts.
4 - Couldnt tell you, but if you dont fix what caused the problem in the first place, itll happen again.

You'll be a lot better off just welding the holes in the hood. If you don't feel comfortable take it to someone who's good with a wire welder. It won't take but a minute to fill then you'll be able to grind down and smooth out a bit. The bracket that the gauges are mounted in has become loose and is setting at an angle and wore through...or the "pads" that your gas tank is sitting on have deteriorated or were never thick enough to begin with. Replace these with thicker mounting pads...this will bring up the rear of the hood to the correct height and will keep it from rubbing on the gage mount.

The piece on the inner side of the wheel is the surface for the dust seal to ride on. If it is rusted or damaged you should replace it.

On the outer face what you are looking at is just the gasket.
