M Governor Repair or Replacement

The governor on my M does not idle down when I push the throttle in. I believe the problem is in the Governor.

How difficult is it to rebuild? Who has governor rebuilding kits? Or is it better to buy a rebuilt one? If so, where do you recommend?

Before you tear into the governor, look at the carb. Make sure that the tab on the end of the rod that connects the governor to the throttle plate is lined up correctly. It could be that these are no longer aligned, the small fitting on the end of the throttle shaft could be broken, or maybe the shaft is binding in the carb.

There is a screw near the tube from the governor. It adjusts the idle speed. If it does not, it could be that the throttle plate is loose and getting stuck in the carb bore. A leaking intake manifold will also allow a speedy idel. Jim
