I searched and haven't really been able to find anything. Do any of you know a big box store or someplace like TSC where I could buy a gas cap for a Farmall M locally to Arkansas? The previous owner of my tractor has painted over the serial tag so I cant put in for the free gas caps plus I would rather not wait (just converted to gasoline)

Thank you!

TSC will have them in stock. They are chrome, not like the stock ones, but will fit good and tight.

If the serial tag is painted over, just clean it off with steel wool and maybe some paint thinner.

thanks for the replies. I don't know what type of paint the Guy used but its some tough stuff. I used paint thinner for enamel and it wouldn't touch it I even tried to rough it up with a wire brush to try and let it penetrate and it didn't touch it. I may bring some methyl keytone home from work and try that I just don't want to take off the information off the tag

I appreciate this guys, I may try this later on. I definitely want to clean up the serial tag but I didn't want to be too rough on it and lose all of the information off it.

Got a new one for my 340 without a serial number. I just put "plate missing" in the serial number field.

The only place you can buy the proper "safe" triple baffle gas cap is a CaseIH dealer.

Otherwise, buy online.

go to ihgascap.com and get your free ones due to the recall. They have an online form to fill out with all your tractor models you can list. They have so many they usually send an extra. They ship fairly fast. They are black in color. I've found that the rubber gasket sticks to the rust that forms on the lip of the tank. After having to use pliers to unscrew them, I'm going to start putting anti-seize or something on the rubber gasket.

I don't have a serial number for mine. Either I left it off or made one up. They don't check them anyway.

Lacquer thinner removes many kinds of paint. The serial numbers are stamped so any chemical you use will not remove them.
