place your bets....new project

Brought home a new project tractor last night...a 1940"s Farmall A. It"s complete, good rims, matched tires that hold air & have good tread, but are weather checked...Sheetmetal is fair, no one has robbed any parts, paint is faded...I bought it knowing the motor was stuck. After work today, I spent about 1/2hr on it, I drained all the gas & oil out...when I pulled the plug on the motor oil, I got 3 gallons of anti-freeze/oil/sludge....after this, I pulled the plugs & rocked it in 4th gear...motor is now not stuck & a good amount of antifreeze came out of #1 cylinder plug hole. I don"t know the history of it...place your bets, do I have cracked block or just a bad head gasket??? I"ll pull the head tomorrow night & post what I find.

Depending on how long it's been sitting. I would pull the pan and see if there is coolant coming from the bottoms of the sleeves. These are wet sleeves. I have my A torn down now because of suspected "o" rings leaking on bottom of sleeve. This wouldn't put any in the plug holes though.
