454 oil usage

I need help diagnosing the problem of spark plug fouling on number 3 and 4 cylinders. Tractor has good compression but, blue smoke and stinky exhaust are bad. Whats my best fix? Thanks for your help.

The best fix is a sleeve/Piston/and gasket rebuild. Checking engine bearings for wear as well.
It can be done in the tractor, or out in a shop.
If it were mine, and I knew it was just getting worse, and not a sudden onset thing, I would just do as above. If I knew it had been sitting for a long time, I would put a tablespoon of auto trans oil into each cylinder and let it sit for 3 days then give it a try. It will smoke for a few minutes from the oil, then should either be better, or still require an engine kit. Jim

I'm with Locojim . Using Air holds to keep the valves in position , or stuffing a rope in the cyl thru the spark plug holes , you can jam the valves in the up position , and install valve seals on the valve stems. It's pretty easy , and worth a shot before a big teardown....

If the blue smoke is only present on idling conditions, or on down hill runs in high gear, yes it could be guides. Blue and stinky seems to me more likely to be stuck rings. Either way it should have a valve job when rebuilt. Jim
