Oil Additives To Refresh Seals/Gaskets

I suspect that nothing really works but would like to know if anyone has tried a product that seems to slow down leaks through Seals or Gaskets.Of course a lot of products claim to do this but its hard for me to believe they actually work.

Bud, I don't know if it works or not but there was a recent thread about leaking main seals. Someone provided a link to a Bars Product called Bar's Rear Main Seal Repair which is a product you put in the crankcase in lieu of a quart of oil. I've never used it and know nothing about the product but did think enough of it to print off a copy for my tractor stuff. I bought a nicely restored SMTA which basically had everything leakable replaced during the restoration and when I got it home the rear main seal was leaking just sitting there running for 30 minutes or so. Never added anything except just started using it a little doing odd jobs around the farm and before long it stopped leaking. This might of just been a case of needing to be used. Unless you suspect wear on your seal or crankshaft maybe just limber up the gal and give her a workout and see if things improve, good luck, Hal.

I have used it and had good results with rubber type seals. It took a few weeks to work.
On one engine the leak was fixed and on the other it slowed to almost nothing.
I also used it on a front shaft transmission seal and that stopped leaking after three weeks.

If this stuff works it seems like it might be a good deal to just keep it in all our collector tractors that spend most of there time just sitting.
Thanks for the reponses.I just may give it a try.

Put it in fresh oil and don"t look for good results the next day. It takes time {weeks} to work.

Last and only time I tried something for that it cost me an oil pump relief valve and that was in a car engine so had to pull the engine out to fix the stuck relief valve

Some folks just have no luck.

Gloom, despair, and agony on me.
Deep, dark depression, excessive misery.
If it weren"t for bad luck, I"d have no luck at all.
Gloom, despair, and agony on me. LOL!!!!!!
