Sediment bowl packing

Anyone ever had any luck putting new packing around the valve stem on the sediment bowl assembly? My tractor is a M. If so, what kind of packing, and where might I find some?

Jerry, I have tryed some fine nylon with greese and it worked for a while. Rice equipment
814-226-9200 has new needle with packing that is your best fix. oldiron29

I have had good luck using a piece of cotton string dragged through a bar of soap and wrapping it around the shaft.

Try waxed dental floss. Worked for me.

A lot of the originals had backseating stems. There was no packing. If you didn't open them all the way, they would leak.

Learned from the guys on this site.

Graphite valve stem packing. Its a rope like stuff just wrap it around a couple of times and screw in the packing nut on top of it. Probably have to go to a good hardware store to find it.

I got a spool on ebay. Kinda spendy, but I have many to do. It has to be packed in there pretty tight to work well.
