I own a 1936 f-20 with a flat belt fan assembly.I recently dissassembled the assembly to inspect the bearings and clean it up.Can anyone tell me how the shaft that holds the assembly is attached to the block? Can it be removed and is the water jacket behind it? B C Williams

That shaft is screwed into the block. I will have to confirm this, but I am pretty sure it is a blind hole.

kirk,Did you ever confirm if the f-20 cooling fan shaft is in a blind hole. And any thoughts of how to get it loose without major damage?BC Williams

Sorry, I forgot to check. I will try to do that in the morning.

To get it loose, I would suggest heating the block around where the shaft is screw in, let it cool enough so that when you spray penetrating oil on the metal it will not burn away, the heat will draw the oil in. Bang on the end of the shaft with a big hammer and then put a big pipe wrench on it and try to break it loose.
