I am working on a couple of Cubs. The one I am trying to get started is a 1948 model. I bought a Zinth type carb on Ebay. I know is suppose to have the IH one. I can't get it to run very long. Will my carb work and is there anything special I need to do to it? It is clean.

Make sure the fuel line from the tank is clear, they plug up over the years.

If you put a fuel filter on it "remove it" .
I have found that auto fuel filters are designed to work with fuel pressure, your gravity feed.

The filters will work if installed ok i have used the Frams for many yrs sure they do collect dirt and have to be replaced but thats what they are for it helps to have them pointing down and the carb end towards the carb. Some old gastanks are just bad.

You need a gravity feed fuel filter. They're not common. Most are for pumped systems.

On a cub with underslung exhaust, you're best off just using solid steel line anyway. The exhaust pipe will melt a rubber fuel line and cause a fire.

At the moment I am using a temp gas tank and line. It is getting gas. My question is will the Zenth carb work or do I have to get a IH one. Are the orifices ok as they are on the Zenth carb? I have another Cub that I will try switching out the carbs. It is an IH. That one is running good and I hate to mess it up during gardening season.

Don't just look. Take the carb apart and CLEAN. Use carb cleaner and pressurized air to blow out all the passages.

go to farmallcub.com
how to section,
look for lurker carls article on carb rebuilding
only use the IH carb kit, it is explained why there
straighten the carb body as shown
use a steel gas line only

good luck

yes the zenith should work with an adaptor for the air intake
