Light Switch Resistor

Just bought a used light switch/amp box. Took it apart to clean and paint and the resistor has what looks like tin foil flaking off it. Can I replace that with a new one and can anyone tell me the value for that resistor? Switched to 12V if it matters. And I don't know, maybe I don't need to replace it. I read in the archives that those switches are very durable. Can I just meter it to see if it's ok. All that flaking makes worried some.

That resistor was used to ground the field for hi-charge when it had a cut-out. Now that you went to 12v you wont be grounding the field there. You wont need the field wire coming from the generator area as it originaly came from the field when it had a cut-out. Most replacement regulators will cover this in the installation sheet that comes with the new reg.

Just thought of another thing. I've been reading the archives about 1,2,3 wire alts, saw quite a few people saying the one wires aren't the best way to go, have overcharge problems a lot after a year or so. What would you suggest?

I know you know this. the resistor is only for low charge. All other positions are high charge.
I made a diagram for the post below from 47H. I'll include it here as well. Jim
