I am trying to fix the remaining leaks on my H and am wondering if anyone can help me find the right PTO seal. I have a 1949 with the later style PTO. I talked to the parts man and gave him the dimensions but he said there are over 100 seals that size in his computer. Any help with what to get will be very much appreciated.

if he had over 100 that size why didnt he give you one? thing is a lot of them are just too lazy to spend a little time to help someone, and the other thing is some are just plain stupid.experienced and seen this happen.

Sure that is an easy one.
Go here to look up the part number -
http://www1.caseih.com/northamerica/PartsService/Pages/search.aspx

45702D Seal Power Take-off Shaft Oil Seal
358772R91 Oil Seal Power Take-off Shaft Oil Seal
358812R91 Seal Assy. Power Take-off Shaft Oil Seal

Then go here to cross it over
http://www.napaonline.com/Search/Results.aspx?Ntt=45702D&Ntk=Interchange%20Number&Nty=1&N=0

Part Number: 45702D = NOS 13671 $10.29 Each
Part Number: 358772R91 = NOS 15330 $21.99 Each
Part Number: 358812R91 = NOS 13676 $ 10.29 Each

I think the last one is the one I put in my H's

I think I told you wrong.
I think the 15330 is the seal I used on my 49's

Here is a quote of a post from the archives. I could not get the CR numbers to cross on the NAPA web site but ANY parts man worth his/her salt will be able to.

"IH used 2 different PTO's on the H depending on the tractor serial number.
The serial number break is at 118000.
The two seals are not interchangable.
The lower serial number tractor pto units use a seal CR16275.
The higher serial number tractors PTO use seal CR13696. "

Thank you very much for the help. I'll be in town today and see what I can find out at NAPA. I figured there must be a reason why they have so many seals, and I'd better try to find the right one.

I had a young pup at a national parts chain's new local store REALLY tick me off recently when I asked for four Champion D-21 plugs. He literally could not look them up and asked if I had a part #. I was very patient. He got more frustrated and eventually asked me what they fit, and I gave him the make and model of the tractor. I added that they probably were used in over a hundred different engines for many brands of farm and industrial equipment over a long span of years. He said, "Tractor? Does our sign out front say 'Advance Tractor Parts'"? I turned and left and haven't been in there since.

On the other hand, my local NAPA dealer is an old tractor nut and an all-around good guy, even if he does likes that off-brand (green) stuff <grin>. He will go far out of his way to try to get you the right part and at a good price.
