Asked before with great and varied response but now have pics. 1955 300-U. Gasoline engine. Fuel leaks from the bottom of the carb about 2 drops/sec. Didn"t before the rebuild. Used to start on second crank now takes a minute of steady cranking. Runs fine other than uses 2 gal/hr of gas. In the pics I have shoved a handy stick in the hole to slow the leak since it drains uncomfortably close to the exhaust. Am I missing a plug? Internal stuck part? Screw? Or just screwed? Thanks guys!

Go through the entire rebuilding process one more time, and this time pay attention, follow the directions, and don't try to second guess the specific settings for the float height and drop, and also make double sure the float is NOT rubbing the sides of the fuel bowl.

there should be a bronze filter inside of that hole, it is there to drain water and gas out of the carb. what it is telling you is that your float or needle valve is not working properly. you need to disasemble your carb and find out why the needle valve isnt seating properly or adjust the float so it will close the valve.

The filter is not bronze. It is made of felt, and is intended to keep the dirt and dust out, while still allowing condensation and excess fuel to escape.
