it first fires; otherwise seems to flood? Replaced
plugs, points, condenser, cap and rotor all appeared
old. Spark at all four plugs. Please help with
suggestions? since then compression is (1)70,(2)80,(3)85,(4)90 - not great but still should run? will not start fires out both exhaust and intake - Have spark, Air, Fuel. I think that indeed the cam/timing gears have broken or slipped? I have removed the valve cover and all valves are opening and closing - how is this possible if the timing gears are broken, since there is no chain is it possible for the gears to jump? Not break but jump teeth?

Many thanks to all for discussion, help, advice and pictures.

The firing out both exhaust and intake sounds like a timing problem...or the wires are crossed up somewhere. I was getting an M going once and it acted the way you describe, I had the wires wrong on the distributor...it fired right up after that

What kind and model tractor? If Farmall H or M does it have live hyd pump? The original cam gears in these tractors were too weak to power the add-on live hyd. pump and have been known to break. Pull the dist. cap and see if the rotor turns when you activate the starter. Armand

You might have a cracked cap or coil. When it did run for a while, heat caused expansion from running, and caused it to short. Now it has progressed to not running. In pitch black darkness try to start it and you will see arcing on the bad part. Probably will be between the terminals on the coil. Wayne

#1 on TDC compression. Rotor should point to 1:30 position from rear.
put #1 plug wire in that hole.
in CW direction put #3 plug wire.
In the next CW position put #4, followed by #2.
