As I posted a few days ago, I need a new cam gear for my MTA. I was going to start calling around looking for a used one, (and CIH for a new one)but want to make sure I get the updated, heavier, gear. I see the part number listed on CIH website for the M through 450 is 6760db. Is this the new universal number? If I ask for that number, I want to make sure I don't the older lighter weight M gear...

Thanks, Ben

Whenever a certain part is upgraded or improved, that part then gets a new part number, or a suffix is added to the old part number to reflect the improvement, and then the old design is made obsolete and no longer manufactured. I will guess that the part number for the original M cam gear is 6760, and the db suffix reflects the upgrade to 450 standards.

If your old gear was # 6760DA you probably won't see any difference in the gears. They did make the DB gear for a tighter fit on the camshaft and recomended the camshaft be supported when installing the gear. Rusty answered the other question, 6760DB was the only gear sold for replacement by IH for M to 450 tractors for a lot of years. Don't know who's making there gears now, may be the same one the aftermarket companies are selling.

Cub and M, when you put the hydraulic pump back on don't put the wrong bolt (one to long) in the lower inside pump mounting hole. Saw several good cam gears messed up because of that. Also puts metal shavings in the engine. Posting a picture of a damaged one because of a long bolt and its not bad compared to some.

Thanks D,

I noticed the difference in bolt length when I was taking things apart, and noted where the long one came from. But I do appreciate your lookin out for me.
