5488 good or bad tractor?

there is a nice looking 5488 2wd for sale down the road. duals, factory cab, nice looking tractor. looks like around 4000 were built. any problems with that model or is it a good solid machine?

Our newest tractor was a 1086 until we got a 5088. The shifting was a little different but overall we love it. Plenty of power and some nice features. The cab is much quieter.

Over on the Red Power site Mike/series88restorer works on those machines at a dealership and in his own shop. He swears by them as real good tractors. I got a chance just the other day to pull a 20ft disk with the neighbors 5488 and the one thing that stood out was how quiet the cab was and their machine doesn't have the greatest interior left.
I'm looking to sell my JX95 and buy a larger tractor and the 5288 is one of the models I'm looking at.

I spent all day taking out the cab floor in a 5488 to replace a blown hydraulic hose under the cab and fuel tank. We have owned a 5488 since 1983 and I will never understand why some people like them. We also own a 2590 and a 2594 Case. The case tractors are far better tractors they are more dependable with much more power. And they ride better.

88 series was probably best tractor on the market at the time,we had a 5488 at home,put approx 4000 hours on it and was never in the shop.also had a 2290 the same time,put 1500 hours on it,spent $15,000.00 on pump drive gears and powershift on 2 different occasions.The 54 was our main tillage tractor,the 2290 light work.The IH was a way better machine!!!
