farmall H pto question

the serial number on my older farmall H tractor is 92557. the shifter lever for the pto comes out above and about 2 inches to the right of the pto shaft(small shaft size). the newer parts tractor has the longer set-up with the larger size shaft. can these be changed easy from one to the other or is there a bunch of gears and bearings to deal with. I would like to go to the larger shaft.

Depends. Some of the old units had the "dog type" end. If yours is that one, you have to change the drive. If it is the splined type, you can change it easily.

If it is the splined shaft then yes, it is that simple. I don't know about the dog system, but I think you'd be after that time anyway.

If you have the dog style drive, the bottom shaft of the transmission needs to be changed to the "new" style spline drive. I have made the changeover on a friend's H; not very difficult if you have a hydraulic press to exchange the gears. If you get a newer shaft with gear teeth in good shape then it is just a parts swap.
