A couple of MD questions.

I have a couple of questions for the MD folks. 1) I have the injectors out at present and 2 of the pre-combustion chambers came out also. The holes in them are off to one side, not directly in the center. What direction are these to be installed in? I can’t seem to find it in the service manual any where. If I recall correctly, someone stated that these holes should be positioned so that they spray into the dish of the piston. Am I correct? I don’t have the head off at this time but by looking at pictures, that dish in the piston is on the injection pump side of the engine, correct? If this is correct then the other 2 pre-chambers that stayed in are not correct also.

2) Would it be possible for someone to either post or email some pictures of the starting control rod from the handle at the operators platform to the cross shaft bracket and the under tank bracket also. Mine is bent up and I would like to see what a correct set up looks like so I can set mine up correctly. Thanks for your time.

1 - The precups should have up on them somewhere. I don't have mine out, but Ray as DIS told me that they say up. I have also read this in the service manual. It is in there in the injector section IIRC. I think my holes are on the high side of the center??? I would have to go look to be sure. I didn't really worry about it bc they were all in the same spot.

2 - I can do that someday if somebody doesn't already have a picture. There isn't one in the manual? Will the parts diagram get you what you are looking for?

As sflem said, there should be "up" stamped into the outer side. You may need to clean it real good becasue some of them didn"t get stamped very deep and are very hard to read. The other method is to install them so the outlet port discharges accross the combustion chamber, not downwards toward the piston.

Thanks guys for the info. I read that area of the manual a couple of times to get the torque specs for the injectors and must of glanced over that what says which direction to place the pre cups. Sorry.

After taking the wire wheel to the cups, I did find the "UP" stamped in them.

I still could use a few pictures of the start rod from the operators platform to the cross shaft bracket & also the under tank bracket for it.
The parts manual shows the rod with the offsets in it but is it a rolling offset or just straight? As with the bracket, mine has a kink/bend in it and can't tell from the parts list if it has one or not. The only somewhat picture of it is in the operators manual and it is not to clear. Thanks.

I'll let it slide this time :D It is really easy to get in a daze when reading the manual and blow past details. I only remember bc I just read it about five times making sure the nozzle body retainers would just pull right out (sort of...) I don't need another bull pinon carrier problem ;)

I will try and get a pic of the rod stuff, but I have to start working now. It is a terrible thing.
