Need info on a 101 fertilizer unit and a 180 planter

I have an assortment of 101 fertilizer units and a 184 planter. These units are the ones that attach to either side of the Farmall 140. I need a manual to set up the gears for the proper distance between seeds and fertilizer flow rates. The top picture is the 101 unit with the 184 planter. The 2nd picture is an assortment of other 101 fertilizer units that attach to either the left or right side of the tractor apparently at the same time as the planter..

Can anybody provide me with a contact number, to buy a 101 fert unit manual?
Thanks

I have a 180 planter manual that also covers the older fertilizer unit with the galvanized hopper. There are tables in here that provide all of the information you need. As far as seed spacing, I need to know what planter plate you have, and I can tell you what sprocket to put on the countershaft and on the feed shaft to achieve the desired spacing. As far as fertilizer goes, it depends on what notch number the lever on the side of the hopper is on and how many pounds per acre you want to put down and I can tell you which sprocket to use. Also, I need to know which feed wheel you are using. Let me know what you have and I can match it up in the book...

Hi Tom; Thanks for the reply. Maybe I need a manual for a 180 instead of the 184 manual I have? Looks like the 184 unit is for a pull behind planter instead of the under tractor planter.

I only have one plate and its a 1 979A, edge drop, 16 cells. That plate looks like it might work for all the regular garden seeds I want to plant, except for the large fordhook limas and little okra seeds.

Thanks again for your help.

OBrian,
Good timing, I have been looking for a good photo of those units.
I have a question, what are the pieces laying on. Is it grass or what.
It looks like pine tree droppings around here.

The manual I have is for a mounted planter like you have. What spacing between seeds are you looking for? Also, do you have any part numbers of the current sprockets you have and how many teeth they each have? I can tell you either way the spacing you will get with your current setup, or what sprockets to get to achieve a desired spacing. The plate you have now is for large corn seed.

I will go out and dig through the pile and see what sprockets are there. Also how many teeth and any part numbers. Will also order a manual for the 180 planter, tomorrow.
Thanks again.

Hi Tom; There is a 14 tooth drive sprocket on each tractor. Other than that I have an assortment of sprockets. They have a slightly oval center hole and the teeth are slightly canted. I have; 3-8 tooth, 2-10 tooth, 2-12 tooth and one 14 tooth. Other than that there are two that fit together and are part of a drive clutch. I have another larger sprocket with 13 teeth and a locking set screw. There are other gears on the drive units in the pictures above. Some with 7, 12, 13 and 14 teeth. Hopes this helps figure things out. I have no idea at this time as what spacing the garden veggies will be. Maybe you know of a stabdard spacing that will work for most all plants.
Thanks for the help.

Tom, what manual do you have. I need the one that has the direct connected planter. i have seen posts here on the forum, from back in 08 that the planter is a 179 blackland (direct coupled) planter. Others suggest that the planter used on the cub is the same one as used on the 140 tractor.

I'm confused, cant find a 180 planter manual from one of the vendors. So which one do I need and where can I get one. Or can you just get a copy made for me at Office depot. I have a few dollars left after buying groceries this morning (grin).
Thanks again.

Did you find info you need on 180 planter? I have operator"s manual I can copy if you need one and also have IH parts manual which list parts and seed plates. If you need pics I have one mounted on 140 tractor. Do you also have ground unit or just seed hopper and drive?

Hi Tom; I finally got a manual, then ordered and received the seed plates for all the garden seeds I want to plant. Have everything all in order and ready to hang on the tractor now. Just finished up plowing, discing and rototilling about 2 acres or so. I'm ready to go and will get it planted real soon. Thanks to you and the rest of the guys on YT for all the help.
