C123 Crankshaft Pulley Puller

I need to purchase a puller to remove the crankshaft pulley on my Farmall 100. Did a complete rebuild and only have about 10 psi on the oil pressure gage. I am pretty sure that the front oil galley plug was not installed by the machine shop. I have seen pullers in the manual that hold the entire back of the pulley rather than the 3-jaw type that will break the pulley. Can anyone direct me to a good source for these? Thanks.

You can either build one similar to Bigdog's that he made for his Cub or have your local metal shop make one and use a bottle jack or a hydraulic ram. Use a split bearing separator too. Hal
PS: Keith has made one for his Super C. Don't pull from the outer edges of the pulley as you will break it.

Here's a sketch for making a puller. Check the dimensions to see if they're ok. Hal
PS: Use steel and most metal shops can punch those holes. Punch them 13/16" for clearance on the 3/4 allthread.

I did not rebuild the oil pump, but it had better oil pressure before the rebuild. The machine shop hot tanked the block about 6 months ago and no one remembers, but I had to put the plug in the rear of the motor. I didn't remember seeing one in the front of the motor, but I read in the archive on this site that there was a plug behind the camshaft gear. It stands to reason there would be one one both ends or they would have had to drill the oil galley from one end. I should have paid more attention assembling the motor.

if you have a bearing supply store near you, they can get you a bearing splitter. or grainger , mc master carr or from a tool truck, ie matco snap on ect. but before i"d do that, drop the oil pan and pull the lower cover off the oil pump and look for wear. not uncommon for the bottom cover to get grooves worn in it from the pump gears. a good flat sheet of glass and some emery cloth, use figure 8 motion and level it back out.

Did you plastigage the bearings when you put it together? If you pull the pan to fix the pump you had better check them. Maybe the shaft was turned & you put in std bearings. The cam runs in the block (no bearings) & there is a hole from the mains to oil it. I don't think there is a plug behind the cam gear. The solid lifters don't need an oil gallery.

I have my Farmall A appart right now and you should be able to check to see if that front plug is there by pulling out the oil gallery plug under the distributer and either looking or sticking a wire in to see if that plug is in. I have that side front plug out now and by looking in I can see the treads for the front plug that is behind the timing gear. My machine shop put my plug back in (good double check as I am ready to put the front cover on). Roger

If you have a oil gallery plug out you would have no oil pressure. The pump does not flow enough to generate pressure with a missing plug. I would be looking for bearing clearance problems or something assembled incorrectly.

The crankshaft was on size and the bearings were marked std., but I didn't plastigage them. I'll check the clearance when I tear it down. Thanks.

Oil pressure update: I finally got around to removing the front cover off my 100 and found a open hole behind the camshaft gear. Put a plug in and will button it back up after I get some gaskets.
