M Carburetor

I have a 1947 Farmall M. The carburetor needs a rebuild. Cast into the carb body is the number 85570. I have searched the internet and can find no reference to this number. Is this a IH carb? It looks like one, but where the idle jet is, there is a plug in the hole. Will a carburetor kit for any M work? The tractor ran great until recently. I think the E-10 gas is making a mess in the fuel system.

Look on the top of the carb for a round tag about 1/2" in diameter. That has the carb number on it. Casting numbers are not needed.
IF your fuel system is clean to begin with, E-10 or ethanol blended fuel has absolutly no effect on the carb. I have used Gasahol now called ethanol since the 70's with no problems. In fact, ethanol has a cleaning effect on fuel systems.
Just order an M carb repair kit and take EVERY jet out and thoroughly clean the passages.

What you have is a IHC E-12 Carb. It will have Throttle body Number (8557D) cast into the body and a 5 digit number on the Bowl section. EX#(50983DC) You need both to order the correct kit.I know this because I have the same carb.It is a Distillate Throttle body on a Stock bowl..You can buy the kit here,I believe it is BK11V or 12V I 'll have to get back when I check....Your Kit may be different, depending on what bowl you have. They made about 5-6 different combinations!...

Hi Coax, Is the bowl number on the bowl or is it on a little tag mentioned in the other response? I cannot find a number on the bowl, unless it is on the side facing the engine. The tag is missing on this carb.
Thanks, Roger

You guys are making it way too complicated. I keep only the kit for the 50983DC in stock. That kit works on ALL M carburetors.

o answer the first question yes, its on the engine side, and Rusty is right the type he has is the correct one. I only went into detail becase there ARE different kits for different Throttle bodys.. (After much Research).
Good Luck.
Peace

P.S. At least you got more answers to this question than I did when I asked it awhile back... :(
