Farmall H belly pump upgrade

Anyone know much about the belly pump upgrade. Found this on a website, www.farmall-h.com under lift-all.
The kick-off pressure is increased, an improvement package (15261-E) was made available which permitted increasing the kick-off pressure of the earlier pumps. Lift-all pumps of early manufacture were set to kick off at 450 to 500 pounds pressure in the system. Later Lift-Alls are set to kick off at 750 to 800 pounds pressure. These higher pressure units can be identified by a yellow figure 8 painted on the outside of the reservoir.
Anyone heard of this before?? Anyone ever upgraded their pump??

I would think it would be a rare pump indeed that has not been repaired over it's life time and therefore have the latest parts as that is what has been available since I started working on them in 1958. Normal repairs usually included new spring, ball , seat and gasket in relief valve.

So if my H can't lift the 13' disc all the way up can I rebuild it to make it work? It will lift if I back up so that it has some help, but not all the way up. It can get it up till the gangs are just off the ground.

BTW - Sorry for the hijack.

Ignoring that an H can't really pull a 13 ft disc, it doesn't take much pressure to lift most old discs. It's pretty easy to plumb a pressure gauge into the lift line and see what pressure is actually getting to the disc cylinder.

Your pump probably needs to be rebuilt.

I knew that would come up :) My MD has some major pump problem (you pull the lever and it feels like it isn't hooked up) and my SMTA is stipped bc it leaked like a sieve and I wanted it lighter for tractor pulling anyhow...SOOOOO...I was only knocking the moldboard down in my garden so that I could get the rototiller in. I was only doing a patch about as big as two discs in a row. If it can't hold it's own doing that much work I don't need it around.

The major part of the upgrade was a new center section of the pump housing. The end clearance of the pump gears was not adjustable on the early pumps. The new center section was narrower and used shim gaskets to set the clearance on the gears. Early pumps may not be able to create enough pressure to kick off at the higher pressure settings.

I'm not seeing any mention of kickoff pressure versus pump pressure. Kickoff is the thing where the control rod is automatically kicked out when the implement tops out. I think you could override it but maybe not. (No manual handy right now)
