Bleed air out of diesel fuel sys.

Hi, I have a International 500C diesel loader and it started to loose RPM like it was not getting fuel so I changed the fuel filters and now it will not start at all. I think that their must be air in the system. How do I bleed the fuel system? I don"t have a clue. Can anybody help? Thanks Darrel

Not sure if this is the "correct" way to do this or not, but crack open the fuel lines on each injector and turn it over until you get fuel coming out of each line. Then retighten the lines.

I've used this method on several diesels and has always worked for me.

Before you start this, you may also want to check fuel flow on the engine side of the fuel filters.

Marty is right. Crack open the lies at the injectors and crank until fuel sprays out retighten and away it should go. Make sure you open the bleeders at the top of the fuel filters to let the air out first.

1) Crack open the bleeder on the fuel filter, and pump the manual lever on the fuel lift pump until there is no more air bubbles, then close.

2) Crack open the bleeder screw on the fuel injector pump and pump the lift pump again until there are no more air bubbles coming out of there, then close.

3) Pump the lift pump until you here the fuel spraying back into the fuel tank from the fuel return. Taking the fuel cap off helps in this. When you hear that, crank the engine and see if she'll fire.

4) If the following three steps are done and no start, proceed to crack open the fuel lines on all the injectors. Crank the engine until there are no more air bubbles, or the engine starts to fire, then tighten the fuel lines. I have only need to do this step when there was no fuel or lines were removed.

I had to prime the 756 one time, and I had fuel flowing at every place I opened a bleeder or cracked a line. I loosened a fitting on one injector and after three cranks it was running.

Thanks klf, I have cracked the bleeder valve on the filter at the pump and cranked the engine I get no fuel. I don't see any manual pump anywhere. Darrel

When I change fuel filters, I fill them with fuel out of a fuel can and then spin them on, the tractor starts right up like it had never been bothered.
You may have to crack open some lines to the injector to get all the air out

Is it gravity feed from the tank to the injector pump? Sometimes, the lift pump is part of the injector pump, and there is a little lever or plunger to manually pump the fuel. Please note, the manual lever will not work if the pump is on high cam.

Are you getting fuel to the fuel filter from the tank? Check that out too, because you could have ice in the bottom of the fuel tank or the line going to the fuel filter. We always put dry gas (isopropyl) in all fuel tanks in the winter, gas and diesel both. Anti-gel will not get rid of water.
