Gentlemen,
I'm going to convert my M from 6-12V and I've looked over all of Bob M's excellent Wiring diagrams and I'm left with a question...Is it going to be a good idea to use a relay ahead of the 6v starter? The map to success does not show one(it has a Mag)but it seems like a good way to go. Opinions? and thanks......
Peace

Just run it the way it is, if your worried about the starter being over run by 12volts, dont. iv had tractors for years with 6volt starters with 12volt systems and no problems. Is there a reason yuo want to run a relay ?

Hell I dont know, I stuck one on my 240 when that got converted, figured the same for the new one.Probably overkill eh?

i think youll be fine without one, iv done several conversions over the years and have yet to put a relay in yet. if it makes you sleep better at night with the relay then by all means put one on. But in my own view you dont need one.

"Relay - Schmeelay. [i:9e11102051]We don' need no steenkin' relay[/i:9e11102051]".
Seriously, I'm with Andrew Z. If it quickly dies, it was going to anyway. I ran 12v for years on a SA with a 6v starter. When I sold the tractor it was still working fine. Go for it.
