tractor ran 30sec. won't start sometime backfires

I changed cap ,rotor, cond. and points checked #1 piston was at t.d.c. rotor was in right postion put a hair dryer on the carb. for an 2 hrs.( where I am its cold and snowy)tried to start it but pops abit like its about to start and once in a while it backfires thru the exhaust.

Check the points gap again. Sounds like it may have closed up.

Make sure your plug wires are in this firing order on the cap if it has 4 cyls. Hal

4-3 Rotates CW.

I don't mean to insult your mechanical aptitude, but was #1 at tdc on the compression stroke or the exhaust stroke? Make sure.....
