Super C Head

I have two heads, one is a 251172 R1 and the other is a 251172 R2. The only differance I can tell between the two is one has longer valve springs and valve stems. Are the heads the same other than the valves? And can you put the longer or shorter valves in eather head? If I remember right the R2 has the shorter valves in it now.

I dont know about c heads. But int the H's the lower compression heads had shorter valves because the compression chamber is deeper. The valves are not interchange able. I think that the super C might have have had a higher compression head , but I don't know for sure.

The heads might be very similar, the valves may be wrong in one of them. The link below should take you to parts diagrams. Long valves are for the Gasoline head. (smaller chamber) I do not know the Part #s but they should be on line below. JimN

I can not get the link to come up but I was wondering if they had the right valves in them. The R1 came with rocker arms on tall stands to work with the taller valves. But that does not tell me if they are right for the head.

Select the country
At the very top of the next page select parts and service, it will drop down. select parts.
On the next page select "begin your search for parts right here"
Then type in Farmall,
then scroll down until you get to Super C
Then select engine. To the best of my thinking, a distillate head would have short valves, and a gasoline head long valves. I was under the impression that the rockers, stands, springs and pushrods were identical from one to the other.

They may take the same stands. Could be adjusted for taller valves. I have a super C that has been in the family from when it was bought new in 1953 and I need to build up another engine for it. I just want to go with the right head. I wish I could find a running engine or at least a block locally(north central Louisiana). Thanks
