1586 engine

Technically the answer is no, but only because your tractor has a 436 in it and that size engine was never used in trucks.

Trucks used the 466 engine and there have been many of them installed in tractors. It is basically the same engine with a longer stroke on the crankshaft. You will need to change the front and rear covers and manifolds. You should also replace the injection pump or have it reworked so you have the correct governor.

There was a kid that did it to his tractor a few months ago. He said it turned out well. He had to replace some stuff, but I don't remember what all needed changing. I also remember him saying that people told him to change some stuff that didn't need changing.

From what I remember, the truck pump is a P-pump and the tractor pump is not. A P pump is the best for pulling bc you can get more fuel from it. I think the kid said the tractor pump swapped over to the truck engine so he didn't have to rework the pump. This is the cheap way to do it. I like power so I would do the P pump :)

You should really search for this thread. I think it was in Farmall, but it may have been in Pulling section.

The 5.9 Cummins is a great engine for tractors that originaly had bad engines. Some Olivers, Allis Chalmers, etc. I would never replace an IH 400 series engine with one though. The IH engine is a bolt in deal where as the Cummins will take some cobbling. The 400 series are great engines but they sometimes come unglued too. I just don't think this is a situation that calls for a Cummins.
