H noise front of trans

Ended up with an H today- didn't really need it, but a nephew needed to move it. Not a bad tractor, lots of new parts, but it's got a noise near the front of the trans. Noise is there when the clutch is engaged, goes away when the input shaft stops spinning. I assume it's a bearing on the input shaft, but I'm no H expert. What's your ideas, and how hard to fix it? Thanks

Does it have the "Belly Pump" in place? If it does, take off the inspection cover (2 bolts) and take out the pump drive shaft (2 BIG cotter pins) Try it again and if the sound is gone, the problem is in the pump. If not, it probably is the input bearing on the transmission. Let us know what you find out.

The drive shaft is out- should have said that in the first post. How hard is that bearing to replace?

Gosh, it's been since 1967 when I had to work on my "H" transmission. (8th grade). I remember changing the 4th-5th sliding gear without splitting the tractor. I did have to remove the transmission cover. Lucky I did because the Bull Gear bolt was almost out!
Wish I could help more.
I really like working on old tractors. Wouldn't mind doing it for other people if I could make a living at it

The drive shaft for the belly pump is seperate from the main drive, or clutch shaft. You still need to drop the belly pump to gain access to everything else. The noise is most likely the transmission main input shaft bearing.

Didn't think I had to split it, but wanted to make sure. It's been a while since I've worked on one. Thanks for the help.
