806 for $1500?

My father found a 806 for $1500. SUPPOSEDLY all it needs is a "power steering pump"... I do not know how the 806 is set up, but my 504 uses the hydraulic pump through a flow divider (proportioning valve) then to a torque generator. I know the 806 is a little more complex. We have not seen it yet and he asked me if it was a good deal (I like red tractors, he has green and blue). Currently his large tractors are a JD 3020 and a Ford 6600. The 806 will definatly become the "big boy" if we get it. Give me some info on the 806.

Thanks,

Ah, sorry I did not specify. Its diesel. Supossedly a good tractor with a steering issue. It sounds like it could be a nightmare, or it could be a good deal. It sounds like its priced pretty low.

My question to my YT friends is what does the steering system consist of? Is there a seperate "pump" in the sense of a driven pump or does it use the hand pump, torque generator principle?

Thanks,

CT

That's scrap price for an 806.

For that money I would expect a pretty nasty tractor. Tires shot, maybe not even holding air. Not running. Beat to pieces. In other words, JUNK.

If this is a driveable (other than the steering), usable tractor that runs good and looks okay I would be very suspicious.

You could easily part it out and make some money on the deal if it's legitimate.

The steering is a hand pump and torque generator. There is no mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the steering mechanism.

Otherwise if it seems to be ok for the age/hours the steering is simple like my 504. I expecting it to be hammered cat$hit with no tires and blowing blue smoke. Isn't a fair price on one of these $3500-$6000 in good condition, field ready? If it is good I'm probably going to buy it.

the price is great if you can get it for that. you just may have run across a good deal. i missed a 706 diesel a couple months ago for 1000.00 with a bad head gasket, was a little too slow on it. i did pick up a nice 240u a couple years ago, good runner a little rough with a woods cadet 6ft rotary mower and a back blade for 300.00, owner just wanted it gone. so, the deals are out there, you just gotta be ready when they come along.

I don't think that hand pumps and torque generators like Behlen and Charlynn are used in the same system. I have a forklift and a 780 Case backhoe with hand pumps and hydraulic cylinder actuators. Never had a problem with the steering on either one.

If the hydraulic pressure is OK, one would need to replace either the hand pump or cylinder. Seems like $100 would buy either one at a salvage yard.

Wardner, we are thinking along the same lines. A steering issue is minor for a 100 hp tractor for $1500. If it shows to be a runner, its only use would most likely be a 15' bat wing and a 4 yd Reynolds dirt scraper. And I think it would handle those with power to spare.

If it sounds too good to be true, it is. Expect many repairs, perhaps major problems. Also, the bigger and more complex a tractor is, the harder and more expensive it is to work on.

You can get those hand pumps and torque motors from any combine along with the manifolds and other necessary plumbing needed to repair the steering. I think the "steering gearbox" is set up for a tricycle front end as well as a wide front. Therefore if you have wide front you would need to find a suitable cylinder to replace the "gearbox or find one from a parts tractor. At $1500 That tractor is worth taking a chance on and I would buy it in a heartbeat if it was close to me!!!!! GO FOR IT!!!!! Armand
