IH 424 Question

I pulled the engine oil pan off to check for a noise in that area. I found the oil pump pick up screen/tubing is resting on the oil pan. It appears to have been designed that way as there is no stop to prevent it from touching the pan. Is this normal for IH engines? I am used to seeing the screen slightly above the pan. The tractor is a 1967 IH 424 gas.
Thanks for replies.

That is a "floating oil pickup screen" and tracks the level of the oil.

It WON'T touch the bottom unless the oil level is extremely low.

That was thought to be a wonder invention in the days before detergent oil, so the sediment and sludge at the bottom of the oilpan wasn't picked up by the oilpump.

Their use continued for a while into the detergent oil era.
