I have a '49 super A with a fast hitch . Can I mount a gin pole on it ? Would it lift say 500lb ? Anyone have pix of how it attaches? tia

If the gin pole is short it mite do 500 you must remember that tractor was never designed to lift 500 lbs very far back of the drawbar front end will raise and you will bust something else just dont do it get a bigger tractor.

I wouldn't go too far out the back. the A isn't a very heavy tractor so that much weight may just lift the front end off the ground if it doesn't break something first. I would get one/build one for a larger tractor with a thre point so it was universal.

Yeah , I know to keep it short and I'll prolly need some extra weight in front . Will the hydraulics handle a 500 lb. lift ? I need to lift things by my self all the time , and this is the only one of my five tractors with any kind of hydraulics.....

I am pretty sure the rated capacity of the fast hitch will do 500lbs right at the end of the socket, but capacity is reduced the further away from the end of the socket you go.

You probably don't have the helper spring, right? Unless someone put a rockshaft off a 100, 130 or 140 on there when they retrofit the fast hitch, a helper spring won't fit. The later rockshafts have a place to attach the helper spring.

There are springs . but they are on the lift rods , and I don't think thats what you mean by springs ,. I'll post pix when I figure out how. Thanks guys....

I used a 3" gin pole on my Ford NAA to set roof trusses I made. These were 28' trusses and had no problem lifting them. I used a block and tackel to hoist them. If the weight reaches CTS (critical tipping stage) add weight in the bucket. Use guy lines to control side to side swing. Hope the photos help. AR

Springs on the lift rods??? There should't be any springs on the lift rods for a fast hitch. It sounds like you have some cobbled up thing using the cultivator lift rods.

Nope, I said spring, as in ONE spring. The helper spring assists the hydraulics in lifting the fast hitch, especially when something heavy is attached. Only 100s, 130s, and 140s have a place to attach one.

Without the helper spring your lift capacity is reduced.

There is one spring at the back of the lift rod on the fast hitch. Same as a regular cultivator lift, but heavier. You can see it here at the top:

The helper spring hooks behind the finder and extend to the front rockshaft. As was mentioned, unless someone changed the front rockshaft, there is no place to attatch the helper spring.

Here it is, but it appears to be unhooked at the front:
