300U Hydraulic Pump Swap

Hey guys, I want to replace my hydraulic pump on my 300U with a new one I just bought. I have an I & T manual ,but that section just doesn`t seem complete to me.I don`t have the old pump off the 300 yet. Just wondering ,is there any tips or words of wisdom in doing this project? The one thing it don`t mention in the I&T manual is if there is a timing notch of some sort to line up the teeth from the pump gear to the cam gear. The manual says to turn engine over till #1 cyl. is on compression stroke and line up notch in crankshaft pulley with pointer on front cover, then remove distributor and then pump. Then for reassembly , it just says do the steps in reverse order. But ,like I said , no mention of lining up specific punched teeth to a specific punched notch. Seems to me it has to have that for proper timing?? I`m grateful for any and all advice. Thanks,Mark

You don't need to worry about the timing marks on the pump drive gear. Just put it in any place. You time the battery ign unit by just pulling the drive gear out and put it back in where ever it lines up with pump drive . As long as you align TDC and number one rotor positon you will not have a problem.

I just replaced my pump. The new pump was a bit longer than the stock one. This cause some interferance between the distributor drive and the block. A little time with the grinder took care of it.
