farmall H real axle removal

Hello i am trying to slide the rear axle out on the foot brake side of the tractor.I have the top deck off and the bolt on the bull gear off.I also took off the 4 bolts on the outer bearing housing where the grease fitting is and slid that off.The axle still wont move,am i missing something? thanks

you need to unbolt it from the main housing and remove it as a unit with the axle hous ing.once thats out the you will need a press to remove the axle from its housing.

hello i am just trying to remove the axel from the bull gear just enough so that i can slide the Bull pinion bearing out for replacement.

You have it unbolted. Use a porta power between the axles or make a jack bolt from a short piece of pipe, bolt and nut. Place between axles and push the axle from bull gear. Where the axle slides through splines or iner bearing can be tight, or at outer bearing in housing also. Some use the bull gear retaining bolt in axle with spacers between axles to push, but if screwed out to far with a lot of pressure, you risk striping threads.

thanks D Slater ,i tried a heavy bolt between the two bull gears to push out the axle of the bull gear that i want off.I took off the big washer, spun the axle retaining bolt all the way in on the bull gear that i want out, placed a big bolt between the two bull gears and backed out the axle bolt,in hoping to push the axle out.The axle bolt without the washer which is almost all the way in the bull gear(so i dont hurt the threads) that i want out.I really didnt try to hard as i wanted to may sure of what i was doing first. The four bolts are out at the end of the axle where the grease fitting is and the end is loose on the axle. I guess that i just have to try harder??? does that sound right?? thanks

Just use the bolt method as previously described. Put a wrench on the bolt head, spacer between head and bolt on other axle and a pipe wrench on axle and turn, it will push right out. May take some effort but as long as you have several threads in end of axle it will work fine. Then , after all that, you most likely need axle housing off as the gasket will no doubt be shot and leak after you get all done so maybe just pull axle housing to begin with.

If you have the 4 bolts removed from axle bearing retainer and the bolt and big washer on the inside of axle, friction is all thats holding axle. Some can take a lot of pressure to pop loose.
