Final drives on Farmall Cub LoBoy- Where do I drain the oil from? I found Filler plug. Am I suppesed to remove the entire cover on the drive? If so, will I need a gasket when reinstalling?
Thanks in advance

If they are like the Allis Chalmers you have to remove the cover. You can use RTV silicone or get a new gasket or make one from gasket material.

Just checked in the parts book and the pan is just like the Allis Chalmers. No drain plug.
Either make or replace the gasket.

Yep - drain by removing the pan. You will need replacement gaskets - easily made if you have a sheet of gasket material. Or like mentioned - some use RTV in place of sheet gasket. I prefer a thin coating of RTV on the gasket. Make sure the flanges on the pans are flat. They get pulled down by over-tightening. Replacement gaskets are around $6 from Case IH. (cork)

I have a Farmall 140 which has the same arrangement. I was told I could use a suction type pump with a flex line through the filler plug to extract the fluid in that manner from the bottom of the final drive. Maybe one of those drill motor type pumps would work. Never have tried it but might be worth a try if you don't want to go through the removal route. Hope this helps, Hal.

I just did this job on my 140 last month. Easy enough provided the wheels are not spaced in to the max where they get in your way of removing the bolts. New gaskets are very reasonable from CaseIH.
Everyone seems to have their own way of doing things that work for them, but I am not a user of RTV on gaskets - especially paper or felt. I used a thin coat of gasket sealer (copperhead) on the pan side of the gaskets to hold them in place while I reinstalled the pans. I also put a little on the threads to prevent leaks and to act as a preventive measure for the bolts coming loose. Get the bolts snug, but not extra tight so as to prevent bending the flange on the pans. I started with the center bolts and worked out toward each end.
No leaks.
Good luck.

I removed the drain plugs from the final drives, and all gas from gas tank, then took my IH 656 w/loader and lifted front end of the Loboy until tractor was vertical, then let the oil drain out the filler plugs. Set tractor back down, and filled with new oil. Didn't see this in the service manual, but it worked fine for me.

Hey the best thing to do is take them of and clean them out and put a new gasket on and you will never have to do it agian. I have done lots of 140s and one cub most still have the oil in from new and a few were completly empty. Put new oil in and forget about them. I believe in doing it once and do it right. Erik..
