Another step for a quick release muffler strap

My mind kept going back to a quick release strap I used on the P-3 that held in our fire extinguisher. So, after failed attemps at finding a bracket on it's own, I finally found a picture of the type on my mind.

Now I have to find that bracket on the bottom on it's own. Any ideas where to start?

You will find that bracket on IH trucks from the
'80's. They were used to hold ether bottles on
trucks with the DT-466 engine. The ether bottles
look like propane bottles and are mounted on the
engine side of the firewall. I suppose alot of
other trucks also had/have ether injection systems
as well. California trucks may not. I dunno.

Holding a fire extinguisher in place does not require near as much strength as clamping a muffler into place. I have my doubts that the clamp in the picture will accomplish what you want it it to do, and asside from that, once a muffler is "clamped" onto a pipe tight enough to prevent exhaust leaks, that muffler cannot be removed without a good deal of effort. Even after the clamp is totally gone.

I set mine up one of 2 ways. #1 which works but not real easy to pull is a threaded pipe you screw on. #2 I use a pipe that fits tight so it is almost impossible for it to leak and #2 works the best

Agree with rustred, not NEAR enough.
Mike, While you have that radiator off, now is the time to wire brush, prime and oaint that front end of the engine. Then do the right side when you have the genny and spark polugs/wires off. You can always spot in when you move to a new area. Get one of those touch up guns that hold 8 oz of paint. Anyone can paint cast iron with one of those. You can dial the spray pattern down to about one inch diamet, or open it up to a fan of about 65 inches. Just like a rattle can spray.

Gordo.

Mike I have the same problem with the muffler on my M Farmall. The sad fact is,if you clamp the muffler down enough that it wont leak, you will have a hard time getting it back off. I was lucky and my muffler sticks down through the hood and doesn't get black on my hood. Luck Bernie Steffen
