Front Tire Bolts - Farmall A

Hi - I've got a 1946 A and I'm looking for a source for the 3" square head bolts that connect the front rims to the tire. The tractor came with 1/2 3" Hex Bolts, but I believe they're supposed to be 9/16 3" Square head bolts. Any ideas?

1/2" N.C. x 2-1/2" is the size.

Here's a link to a company I've used in the past. Their online catalog has changed since I last dealt with them so maybe their policy has, too. But when I was buying things from them (square head rim bolts, big carriage bolts for wheel weights . . .), they charged a modest premium, but didn't mind selling in smaller lots than the 50 the catalog shows. Grade 5 or 8, take your pick.

I bought a few new square head bolts from a vendor at this years RPRU in Madison. I picked up one of his price lists and 1/2" NC 2 1/2" bolts are listed at $1.35 each. I/2" hex nuts are 0.25 each while square nuts are 0.50 each. His name is Norman Jackson and phone no. (317) 431-4803. Hope this helps, Hal.

I bought these bolts a month ago from the McMaster Carr website. I think they came in lots of (5), so I bought (2) bags. Also got the longer bolts for the rear wheel (with the heavy rim) from the same website. Good place for hardware.

Watch where you use the McMaster Carr bolts. They'e excellent folks with a lot of good stuff, but I got some from them without looking close enough. Their catalog is now more explicit in saying all their square heads are Grade 2
