52 M Carb Problem

Tractor has sat for part of the summer did not get a chance to work on it but I realized that I had to make sure it worked for snow season. Tractor would start then would stall out. Pulled the air intake off to make sure butterfly was working and fueled pour out. Is this just a carb problem and would it just be easier to completely rebuild the carb? The second question that I know is a stupid question but how do you shut off the fuel supply I have turned the valve both ways with know difference.

Turn the shut-off in(clockwise) to turn off the fuel flow.
Fuel in the air intake sounds like a leaky needle & seat or "sunken" float.
Easy fix.

I just worked through the same problem on my Farmall H. After talking to a couple of local tractor type mechanics I was told one of the problems leading to this problem is that the surface on the float where the needle valve contacts the float over the period of time these tractors have been around and used wear a small indentation on the float. This indentation causes the needle valve to go to a certain spot and prevents it from sealing off the flow of fuel in the valve seat. I was told to burnish that area smooth using very very fine grit material. I was lucky and found a NOS float at the RPRU this summer so I just replaced it. It was in fact worn in a specific spot. I also replaced the needle valve and seat at the same time and I now have a very smooth running H. Not a hard task as the carb is very simple. Another thing to look for is make sure the float is not rubbing on the side of the bowl and doesn't have a hole which will cause it to sink over time. That might be hard to visually notice though. Hope this helps, Hal.

Been working on this off and on and spent some time on it last weekend. Well after draining the fuel tank since somebody basically destroyed the sediment bowl, along with the valve not shutting they also took out the screen. The carb does need a complete rebuild. So the brass tag says 50983dc where can I get a rebuild kit at, this website does not list that part number and I have no idea what throttle body is on the tractor. Thanks for all your help!
