M Thermostat - again

Thanks to those that replied to yesterday's message. I've learned some things about thermostats that I never knew. After considering the advice I've decided to bite the bullet and go with the IH thermostat - but it seems I need to learn a few things about thermostats before I order.

IH sells a cool 130-155° thermostat ($50) and a hot 165-190° thermostat ($30). The mechanic at the IH dealer recommented the cool one for a gas engine, but I thought I would get a second (or more) opinion.

So which thermostat do you recommend I go with?

And what are the advantages/disadvantages of each?

Thanks in advance.

I agree with the others - get the hot one!

The warmer engine will run better - especially under carb icing conditions. It will also burn a bit less fuel, and the oil will stay cleaner.

Get the hot one, it will run much better in the winter and still run cool enough in the hot weather. I have the hotter one and engine never gets over 180 degrees in the summer plowing.
